2023 DISTINGUISHED MILITARY SERVICE AWARD RECIPIENT

CPT Frances Castillo

Capt Frances Castillo serves as Flight Commander and Intelligence Officer at the 41st Intelligence Squadron, Fort George G. Meade, MD. In this capacity, she leads three Flights totaling over 60 cryptologic Airmen supporting various national intelligence missions.

Capt Castillo is also a leader in the Department of the Air Force Women’s Initiatives Team, a barriers analysis working group charged with identifying female-centric barriers and providing policy recommendations to senior leaders. In this capacity, she oversees more than 600 volunteers and 52 lines of effort to effectively integrate women the military.   

Capt Castillo was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She enlisted as a Logistics Planner in January 2006 in the rank of Airman Basic and commissioned through Officer Training School in 2015. She has held operational and staff officer positions, including KC-135 flying unit Intel support and a deployment to Qatar as an all-source Intelligence Officer assigned to the Combined Joint Operations Center-Afghanistan during the 2020 Intra-Afghan negotiations. She also completed deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kyrgyzstan as a Logistician.
