2023 DISTINGUISHED MILITARY SERVICE AWARD RECIPIENT

Ms. Andrea Aguirre

Ms. Andrea Aguirre is a Public Health Professional in the Department of Defense (DoD) currently serving as a Resilience & Wellbeing Program Manager with the United States Space Force Headquarters. In this role, Ms. Aguirre oversees planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of quality-of-life programs across the Space Force. As a wellness expert and certified health educator, Andrea is also charged with developing the education component of the Space Force’s Holistic Health Approach (HHA) to bring health knowledge and skill-building opportunities to Guardians and their families. Andrea is from a military family and is passionate about enhancing the health and wellness of service members. Naturally, the focus of her work lies in translating research into practice by using the scientific evidence-base to tailor programs and services to the military community. Andrea engages partnerships and collaboration to leverage her work and ensure service member’s needs are identified and supported. Ms. Aguirre previously served as the Marine Corps Headquarters Health Promotion Program Manager where she oversaw health education, advocacy, and outreach initiatives across a diverse set of wellness programs. She holds Urban Planning and Ethnic Studies Bachelor’s of Arts degrees from the University of California San Diego and a Master of Public Health degree from San Diego State University.

Andrea is also in the last months of her Doctorate in Public Health degree with the University of Illinois at Chicago, where her dissertation focuses on the DoD’s strategy execution for the prevention of adverse sexual health outcomes among military members. Andrea is a lifelong learner and is currently contributing to space research as she explores the intersection of the space domain and public health.
